Face Of Alice Be Curious

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

A lot has been happening in the land of Alice Be Curious. I’ve recently launched the Face of Alice Be Curious modelling competition.

This modelling competition is a joint effort with the talented Tina Nikolovski Fashion Photographer, and Jolina O’Hair Makeup Artist. This is a project I’ve wanted to do for a while now and am so excited to see it come alive.

Alice Be Curious together with Tina Nikolovski Fashion Photographer and Jolina O’Hair Makeup Artist are on the hunt for a gorgeous woman who loves fashion as much as we do. If your thinking yep I'd like to try this but I've never modelled before... Don't worry you don't need to have had any modelling experience.

Other than working with these amazing ladies I've also been fortunate enough to have some amazing local businesses come on board as sponsors to ensure  that the winner gets all that she needs from this competition. The sponsors include:

A big thank you to them!

The grand prize of the first ever Face of Alice Be Curious includes:

  • • Professional portfolio modeling shoot with Tina Nikolovski photographer, make by Jolina O’Hair Makeup and styling by Alice Be Curious valued at $2,000.
  • • 12 month Club Lime Platinum membership valued at $1080.
  • • A cut, colour and product package by Off London valued at $500.
  • • $500 store credit at Alice Be Curious.
  • • $200 jewelry pack from Alice Be Curious.
  • • Your face on the cover page of Alice Be Curious.
  • • Opportunity to model 10 catalogue looks for www.alicebecurious.com

HOW TO ENTER

If you’ve ever wanted to model this is your chance. Head to Facebook to enter before the 13th May.

So far I’ve seen so many beauties enter, choosing the 10 for the finals will be a mammoth task. Luckily four get through based on highest votes which leaves six to be chosen by the judges. The top 10 will be announced on Facebook and attend the finals @ RnBHeat at CandyBar Academy Nightclub 9 June 2013.

If you want to enter good luck, if not show the ladies your support by voting for your favourite hottie.

Punk Chaos to Couture MET Ball 2013

Tuesday, May 07, 2013
The inaugural Annual MET Ball is a red carpet fashion frenzy that I look forward to every year. It’s an opportunity to see celebrities, singers, models and A listers take risks, explore fashion, get it right and get it oh so wrong.

I swear this year 80% of the stars were on crack when they said yes to letting their stylist put them in their frocks. Lets start  my worst dressed list with Kim Kardashian. This glowing soon to be mum could have dressed better to flatter her baby bump.

Kim arrived with Kanye in a floral Givenchy gown.  This sounds ok until you see the image. The matchy matchy shoes are a no go and what happened to her hands!? Look closely they are there… just camouflaged with inbuilt gloves. Do you think she got dressed and joked, “look Kanye no hands”.

Next on my not so good list is one of my favourite singers, Beyonce. The 31 year old star took a risk in this Givenchy flame gown. Although I love the print, this dress should go up in flames! I’m not sure what killed it for me the matching boots, or matching gloves or the straight bust. A sweet heart shape would have been so much better.

It’s not always the clothes that make for a bad look. Two examples are Nicole Richie and Cameron Diaz. Both these ladies had gorgeous gowns. Nicole in Top Shop Customs beaded gown that suits her perfectly. She adds some edge with a spiked ear cuff (similar style sold in store!). Cameron wears a beautiful Stella McCartney blue crepe caped gown with a spiked belt.  Both would be perfect minus their hair. Nicole put down the baby powder bottle and Cameron toner, enough said.

Now moving on to the more positive highlights. Lets start with Cara Delevigne. One of my model crushes at the moment! This hottie is just amazing in the spiked plunging Burberry LBD with long sleeves. This dress fits her like a glove. Love, love this and would potentially mug her for it...

Uma Thurman gets the green light from me. Channeling her poison ivy character she pulls of this stunning green Zac Posen gown. This structured dress with fish tail is gorgeous. Uma complements the dress with winged eye makeup and a sleek pony tail.

One more to add to my favoutite list, Blake Lively. The silk Gucci gown was a great choice. I just love the cascading tulle layers, so dramatic (in the good way). Although I think if this dress was on anyone else with darker hair it could have gone a bit Ursula from the Little Mermaid (the colour pallet reminds me so much of Urula's character).

Charging Clutch

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Like so many of us I rely on my iphone so much these days. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, emails, addictive games that make me unproductive at work the list goes on.  What annoys me the most is going out and seeing that battery drain at a crucial point ie, trying to call your friends to find out where the after party is.

Well I think I've found a solution. While asking the bar staff to charge your phone is ok in emergencies there is something even better out there. Possibly the best invention (dam why didn't i think of this)... What is it you ask?... A bag that charges your phone!

Yes you read right. Everpurse is a clever invention that has an inbuilt dock for your iphone. It allows you charge your phone while you on the go.

While I think the design of the actual clutches still has some way to go I think this is a brand/technology to watch in the future.  It's great to see a designer with such innovation and commitment to solving first world problems ;)

Arm your wardrobe with military hues

Monday, March 18, 2013
Fashionista's around the world are sporting military looks. Don't wait and be left behind. Arm your wardrobe with kahki and at minimum a parka. Don't worry I have your back.

Alice Be Curious is stocking the gorgeous WISH Expectations Parka (below right). Customise this jacket with embroidery or patches or simply wear as is. At least you know you will have the right "artillery" to combat winter.

London Fashion Week Models Go To Harlem...

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

One of my favourite models at the moment, Cara Delevingne and fellow stunners Jourdan Dunn and Rosie Tapner prove they too can bust out the "harlem shake'. Preformed backstage at the Top Shop catwalk, London Fashion week. After all girls just wanna have fun!

A clear winner

Clear uppers and lucite heels are back! I’m simply adoring this trend and have so for a while now. It's a trend that an work for both winter and summer. There is something about being seen in these  shoes from far. It looks like your walking on air.

Luxury brands such as Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Chanel and Charlotte Olympia have dabbled in this trend so you know it’s worth trying.

So until my bank balance miraculously starts multiplying on it's own accord, I have Jeffrey Campbell shoes to indulge in and so do you.

Chain Reaction

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Wow. I have just discovered my newest lust item that I am sure to dream about. You laugh but I truly dream about shopping…

Diane Von Verstenberg’s Spring 2013 collection simply needs to make it’s way on to my shoe rack. These thin strap stilettos have an elegant style with a twist. Not sure how comfortable they actually would be but, hey who actually thinks of that? I normally don’t until the day after when I am hobbling around the house ‘cause I partied too hard in a pair of heels that made me feel awesome. My fav tip to make shoes more comfy is to spray a lil leather stretch spray where they are tight and wear them with socks (around the house only).

Diane why do you make it so hard to choose a colour?

Plastic not so fantastic

Friday, December 21, 2012

Just wanted to say you are all beautiful. You don’t need to go under the knife to be gorgeous. Beauty starts from within, and if you are with someone that tells you otherwise they don’t deserve you. I just think it is sad that in today’s society some women aspire to be like the plastic dolls we used to play with as kids.
